There has been a lot of controversy about Michelle Obama's wardrobe choices. She has been branded as both The New Jackie O and also a brazen fashion faux pas. Now, I'm more in the Jackie O. camp myself. All this flack she has been taking about having bare arms all the time seems petty and irrelevant. The woman's arms are toned to high hell and she looks fabulous! I honestly didn't think a thing about it until the Hubs turned on Fox news and they were having a prime time discussion about it. Urgh, people! This is 2009! Next thing you know, they will be angry her ankles are showing! Anyway, I didn't start this post to talk about Michelle Obama taking the gun show on the road. I want to talk about THIS:
Oscar de la Renta seems to think that Michelle Obama's J. Crew wardrobe does not include enough designers. And he seems to think that buying reasonably priced clothing is "not the right message"
“American fashion right now is struggling,” he said. “I think I understand what [Obama and her advisers] are doing, but I don’t think that is the right message at this particular point."
"I don’t object to the fact that Mrs. Obama is wearing J. Crew to whatever because the diversity of America is what makes this country great. But there are a lot of great designers out there. I think it’s wrong to go in one direction only," he added.
Hmmm...sounds like someone is a little bitter now that their fave former first lady relocated to Texas! Now, I'm not a proponent of a J.Crew-only diet, but I see what she is doing here. Its attainable, its cute, why not? With unemployment at a high right now, its nice to see some realistic choices from a role model!
That being said... Return to your greed-mongering ways. Go shop! Its the patriotic, economy-stimulating thing to do!
